Collection includes two printed pamphlets by Penrose, "Priesthood and Presidency" concerning the claims of the Reorganized Latter Day Saint Church, and "The Mountain Meadows Massacre" which includes details, statements, and testimonies of various people involved in the incident, bound together and containing some handwritten notations. Also included is a TLS to William S. Paine concerning the removal of Moses Thatcher from the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, 1915, 3 personal TLSs to Cassie Donahoo, 1922, and a short poem by Penrose, all typewritten.

Papers are actually undated 20th century transcriptions of two letters from Mormon missionaries found in the Evening and Morning Star (EMS), a monthly Mormon newspaper, in Ohio and Mich. The letters include one from Samuel Bent in Pontiac, Feb. 16, 1833, published in the April 1833 EMS, and a letter from Gideon (Simeon?) H. Carter in Kirtland (Ohio), dated May 1833 published in the July 1833 EMS. Also, there are notes on the obituaries of William Scoby who died on Dec. 4, 1833 age 22, published ...
